Toys for limited Fine Motor skills

Some kids have a hard time reaching, and may have difficulty interacting with and manipulating toys. Toys with buttons and switches may be too hard for them to activate. Some toys choices I have found that are easy to make move, activate sounds, and trigger visual stimulation include:

LeapFrog Spin & Sing Alphabet Zoo

This easily activated toy has been a long time favorite for kids with severe profound disabilities. It activates easily, and has music and sound effects.

The Sassy Fishy Fascination Station is also easy to spin with a swipe of the hand, and the suction cup bottom is great for attaching to highchairs or adaptive chair trays. It has different textures to feel, and makes softer sounds than the electronic toys. Sassy makes several toys similar to this one, including The Wonder Wheel Activity Center .

The Manhattan Toy Wimmer-Ferguson Infant Stim Mobile To Go Travel Toy (wow what a mouthful) is one of my must-haves! The high contrast plastic “cards” are genius. They can be switched around, and also used separately. There are no bells and whistles with this one, but don’t underestimate how much interest this mobile can trigger. A simple touch makes the mobile move, and nothing is better for stimulating visual interest than high contrast colors and shapes. There is a travel version  and a larger crib version
